About Prayagraj

Why Visit Prayagraj?

Prayagraj — the ancient Prayag — sits at the most sacred confluence on earth: the Triveni Sangam where the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati meet. Home of the Kumbh Mela — the largest human gathering in history — Prayagraj is a city of profound spiritual power, rich history and the Nehru family legacy.

Holy Dip at Triveni Sangam

Holy Dip at Triveni Sangam

The most important ritual in Prayagraj — bathe at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati. Washing away sins and attaining moksha is believed to happen here.

Early morning (5–8 AM) is the most serene time
Akshayavat (Immortal Banyan)

Akshayavat (Immortal Banyan)

The "undying banyan tree" inside Allahabad Fort — mentioned in the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas. Pilgrims believe tying a thread here fulfils wishes and grants moksha.

Entry by Army permit; check current access rules
Bade Hanuman Ji Temple

Bade Hanuman Ji Temple

The famous reclining (sayana) statue of Lord Hanuman — partially submerged during monsoon floods, the only reclining Hanuman statue in the world. Near Sangam, very sacred.

Join the long queue patiently — worth every minute
Sangam Boat Ride

Sangam Boat Ride

A traditional boat ride to the exact confluence point where the three rivers meet — see the distinct colours of Ganga (blue-green) and Yamuna (darker) mingling.

Negotiate the price before boarding; ₹100–200 per person
Mankameshwar Temple

Mankameshwar Temple

An ancient Shiva temple on the banks of the Yamuna — one of the oldest temples in Prayagraj, predating the fort era.

Open from early morning; combine with Yamuna bank walk
Kumbh Mela Participation

Kumbh Mela Participation

The world's largest human gathering — held every 6 (Ardh) or 12 (Purna) years in Prayagraj. Bathing on the six royal "Shahi Snan" dates is considered immensely auspicious.

Book accommodation 6 months ahead during Kumbh years
