Ayodhya — the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram — has been reborn as one of India's most magnificent pilgrimage cities after the consecration of the grand Ram Mandir in January 2024. Traveller Tips for Ayodhya
Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the Ram Janmabhoomi complex. Use the cloak room.
Remove footwear before entering all temples. Designated shoe stands are available.
Darshan queues can be 2–4 hours long on weekends. Visit on weekdays or before 6 AM.
Observe silence and decorum inside the Ram Mandir sanctum — it is a deeply sacred space.
Use official e-rickshaws or VisitKashi cabs — avoid unregistered autos that overcharge tourists.
Dress modestly — full-length clothes required for Ram Mandir entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before visiting Ayodhya

The essential Ayodhya experiences are: (1) Ram Mandir darshan and Ram Janmabhoomi, (2) Hanuman Garhi temple, (3) Kanak Bhawan, (4) evening Saryu Ghat Aarti, (5) Saryu boat ride at sunset, and (6) Ram Ki Paidi ghats walk.
One full day is enough for the major temples and ghats. A 2-day visit allows a relaxed, unhurried experience covering Ram Mandir, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Sita Ki Rasoi, Nageshwarnath, Guptar Ghat and the Saryu aarti. Most VisitKashi packages combine Ayodhya with Varanasi and Prayagraj.
The Ram Mandir (Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir) is generally open from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM and again from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. These timings may change on festivals or special occasions. VisitKashi assists with VIP/priority darshan arrangements.
By Air: Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya (AYJ) — operational since December 2023, with flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other cities. By Train: Ayodhya Junction (AY) and Ayodhya Cantt (AC). By Road: 135 km from Lucknow (2 hrs), 200 km from Varanasi (4 hrs), 170 km from Prayagraj (3 hrs) via NH-30.
October to March is ideal. Ram Navami (March–April) is the grandest festival — the entire city erupts in devotion and Ram Lalla darshan becomes extraordinary. Diwali (Deepotsav) in October–November is world-famous for 20 lakh diyas. Avoid summer (April–June) due to extreme heat.
